All About Lundia Shelving
History of Lundia Shelving
In 1946 Harald Lundqvist (a carpenter) discovered a self-tensioning principle which enabled components to be held together. He appplied these principles to a timber shelving range which resulted in incredible strength and durability.
Harald patented this system in 40 different countries and created the Lundia brand as we know it today.
- We continue to supply the original Lundia shelving system, as it remains environmentally friendly, versatile, and durable.
- The wood shelving is fully adjustable, ready to use, and easy to install.
- The system is easily reconfigured and modified for easy downsizing or expanding of your storage facilities.
Shelf Design for Maximum Strength
A distinctive feature of Lundia's solid timber shelving systems is the special shelf design. The points carrying the heaviest load are reinforced, which means that each shelf can carry over 100kg in weight without risk of failure, or the sagging common with MDF shelves.
Where the strength comes from:
Both ends of the Lundia shelf are reinforced with iron end angles integrated into the wood. These prevent the shelf from buckling and increase its load bearing capacity, by spreading the load evenly across the depth of the shelf.
The shelf pins spread the shelf load though the entire thickness of the upright column, while the corner notches in the shelves help guide the end angles firmly into place in the upright grooves.
These design features enable the loading on each shelf to be transferred to the upright through the end angles and shelf support pins, ensuring superior strength and flexibility.
Why Use Solid Timber Shelves
- The timber construction absorbs noise.
- Lundia shelves are very strong and are able to carry up to 200kg per shelf, or 600kg per unit.
- Shelving can be set against walls or free-standing.
- Shelving can be static or mobile if storage capacity is critical.
- Solid timber shelves do not conduct heat, electricity, or magnetism, and are earthquake resistant.
Mobile Shelving
Lundia Modular Shelving can be mobilised, thereby simplifying the heaviest and most demanding storage requirements.
The Lundia Mobile shelving system also ensures optimisation of floor space, providing space savings of up to 50% over conventional static shelving systems.
The timber construction absorbs noise and the mobile mechanism moves the unit silently. The Lundia Shelving is mechanically assisted and also features a tracking system, allowing greater ease of movement. The Manual force required to move a mobile unit is 0.05% of the weight with a handwheel. Therefore 10 tonnes of loaded shelf weight will require 5kg of force.
Lundia Mobile Shelving Systems are the space-saving solution for businesses wanting to maximise their space and functionality.
Good-looking, strong and sturdy, the manually operated range is customised to your requirements. The tracking system ensures ease of movement, and each shelf can carry loads of up to 200kg.
"The Lundia Rotadrive is designed to make the heaviest and most demanding storage requirements easy. Being a mechanically assisted system, it enables the user to effortlessly move huge quantities of fully loaded shelves. One drive shaft connects the roller bearings under each pair of upright frames. This ensures a perfectly accurate traction and extremely smooth, quiet movement of each mobile. With one effortless turn of a wheel you can virtually move mountains." (Lundia NZ)
